Hi,
My blog is about the germination of an idea.
It all started after I had written a number of helpful documents for customers. It then developed into producing a paper newsletter. After a while, the newsletter evolved into a full blown html web-based newsletter set up on an automated system.
After a while, and with a little PR, a number of articles began to be published in business magazines. As the interest increased, I received a number of requests to write a book that encapsulated business technology and business process from the perspective of generating profit and not necessarily management.
So I had to gather my thoughts. It started off with bunch of categories, an idea of different words that related to a given number of subjects. I could see it in my mind's eye, a bit like a chemistry experiment watching gases rolling over each other, like clouds getting larger and larger.
In the case of Profit from Technology it was a case of having a burning desire to demonstrate to companies that technology should make money but no-one else was talking in the same terms.
Having worked in the technology industry for nearly 25 years I can safely say that the approach has never changed! Any industry needs to have a clearout. A change of ideas that puts everyone one on a different track.
The book is about logic, plain and simple. If you're in business, you have no choice but to use technology. Therefore, your technology must have a say in how much revenue it helps create. If your email server failed, you could manage for a while, but even the fax wouldn't cope. If your telephone system failed, you'd probably use your mobile, but when all these systems just sit there without having been sewn in to the fabric of your business you may just as well be using chalk and slate.
When technology is implemented with profits in mind, your business changes forever.
This blog is about my journey from the idea to the process of book publishing and beyond.
I'll write back soon.
