Remote monitoring has been around in various forms for years, but now its available for energy consumption, it's been welcomed with open arms. Whilst smart meters hare been available for some time, collection of the data is not nearly as efficient; why wait 24 hours for information when you can have it every few minutes.
Our recommended solution, designed and manufactured in the UK, operates by installing probes which monitors consumption. The probes relay the consumption data via fixed or wireless transmitters to an on site energy logger which in turn is either connected to the internet or a GSM modem. The information is collated at a data centre, allowing you to log in from any PC, connected to the internet, to review energy consumption.
In 2007 Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) signed and agreement to install nearly 1,000 monitoring devices. The pay-back ROI is between 12 to 18 months. Verulum School in St Albans has aleady saved in excess of £10,000. Below are some points highlighted by HCC in a recent publication:
- Real time monitoring immediately identifies areas where energy is being wasted and where savings can be made following corrective action.
- Data obtained will help ensure accurate billing from the energy suppliers and provide information for budget forecasting.
- Email alerts enable early identification of water leaks and other causes of abnormal energy usage, reducing wastage and associated costs.
- Provides a learning resource in the school curriculum with pupils able to access live data.
- Data can be viewed in units of measure (KWH, Litres), C02 equivilent and pounds stirling.
- Supports the prodcution of a Diaplay Energy Certificate and accompanying Advisory report.
